Junior High School

7th & 8th Grade

The 7th -8th grade classroom has an advanced and varied curriculum that reaches state standards and more.  Our classroom does not use Common Core instruction.  Our students are well-rounded in all subject areas and are also able to gain valuable experience in the arts and practical life skills.

Every student has access to their own Chromebook when instructed.  Google Slides, Docs, and Sheets are taught and used, as well as guided research and proper typing technique.

Physical education is available three days a week or more.  Basketball, pickleball, volleyball, soccer, and other skills are taught as well as conditioning and fitness.  Many of our students choose to participate in our school athletic program.

Our students are also given the opportunity to learn music theory, reading, and skills which allow them to participate in live performances on a very regular basis.

Finally, our students actively participate in our mentoring program.  Working with our younger students, they learn important social skills while they teach, instruct, and model in the areas of art, computer, sports, and robotics.

CURRICULUM

  • Math:  After placement tests, students will be placed in either Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, or Geometry.  A student favorite, The Stock Market Game, is an excellent integration into applied math skills.

  • Language Arts:  Our students continue to expand their writing skills through writing activities and research papers.  Students continue to read a variety of literary forms with an emphasis on the classics.  Socratic seminars, to expand critical thinking skills, are integrated throughout the year.

  • History:  American history will be taught over a two-year cycle beginning with the discovery of America to the twentieth century.  A trip to Washington, D.C. to explore and appreciate our nation's history is offered every other year.

  • Science:  Giving glory to God, students will participate in the disciplines of life, earth, and physical science.  Our 7th and 8th grade includes an emphasis on physics, VEX robotics, and coding.  Various fairs are held to allow students to display their creative work.

  • Word of God:  Students continue to build upon their understanding of God’s love for them in Jesus.  Using God’s word, students have opportunities to include Christ Jesus in all of their campus and life activities.  The opportunities are endless to share the love of Jesus with students, friends, and family.

  • Art:  Students will learn and identify the art elements and principles of design in their artwork and those of artists in history/artists from different cultures.  Woodworking skills will also be gained as students complete three-dimensional projects in our workshop.
